ISHIDO SHIZUFUMI SENSEI

Hachidan Hanshi

Ishido Shizufumi Sensei, 8th Dan Hanshi and Kancho of the Shin Bu Kan, started training in Iaido in 1955 under the tuition of his father Ishido Sadataro Sensei.

Ishido Sensei runs his dojo in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, in the Greater Tokyo Area, Japan but has made frequent visits to the UK and Europe since the 1980s.

VIC COOK SENSEI

Nanadan Kyoshi

Vic Cook Sensei holds the grade of 7th Dan Kyoshi in iaido, and has also trained in Kendo and Jodo. He formed the Shin Bu Kan dojo in 1979 since when a number of SBK dojo run by Sensei’s students have opened elsewhere within the UK, Eastern Europe, and Canada.

ROGER PIMLOTT SENSEI

Yondan

Roger Pimlott Sensei took up Kendo and Iaido at the same time over twenty years ago and has now reached Yondan in Kendo and Yondan in Iaido.  He is a qualified coach in both arts and can frequently be found teaching at the Portsmouth Kendo Club as well as being the dojo leader of Shinbukan Portsmouth and our direct Sensei.

Somehow he has found time to look at Naginata, Jukendo and Tankendo and applies the knowledge he has learned across all the arts.  As well as growing a phenomenal beard.

MARTYN KNIGHT SENSEI

Yondan

Martyn Knight Sensei has been studying Iaido for over 15 years and has reached Yondan.  He is a qualified L1 coach and works with Roger Pimlott Sensei as Senpai (Senior Sudent) to make sure that the meaning and intent of all the forms are passed on correctly in both Portsmouth and Bognor Regis ShinBuKan Dojos.

MARTIN ROBERTSON

Nidan

Martin Robertson initially took up Zen Judo in 1990 and has continued his training to this day, reaching the rank of 5th Dan and still takes an active roll in the Zen Judo Family Yudansha panel and as an assistant instructor for the ZJF hombu dojo in Bognor Regis.

He began studying Iaido in 2014 at ShinBuKan Portsmouth dojo to broaden his budo training, and over the years he has had the privilege to have been able to train and grade in both in the UK and Europe, making life long friends along the way. He is now the dojo leader for ShinBuKan (Bognor Regis), under the direct guidance of Roger Pilmott Sensei and Martyn Knight Sensei.
